Curcumin promotes wound healing
Turmeric is traditionally used to promote wound healing. Researchers used turmeric cream to treat women undergoing caesarean section and found that turmeric cream can accelerate wound healing. Wound healing is measured by parameters such as swelling, redness, and bruising.
Another study observed the effects of turmeric (oral) and neem oil (topical application) on chronic non-healing wounds and found that after 8 weeks of treatment, this combination cured 70% of participants.
Evidence shows that curcumin reduces inflammation and oxidation, and helps new tissue formation, collagen deposition, tissue remodeling and wound contraction to promote wound healing.
The most important thing is that turmeric has the ability to heal wounds, even if the subject has impaired the wound healing ability due to diabetes, weakened immunity or other infections. It can even heal wounds exposed to radiation. Taking curcumin before wound irradiation can improve wound healing rate.
